Outdoor Classroom

A Natural Place to Learn

Bundles of Joy Inc. has diligently prepared an inspiring outdoor classroom to strengthen our student’s knowledge, abilities, and skills in all developmental areas while benefiting from the natural setting. Our outdoor classroom is research-based with multiple areas to enhance student learning naturally.

Research from Dimensions Foundation research and field-testing shows that today’s children would benefit greatly from spending more time outdoors and making deeper connections to the natural world. Getting children outdoors, however, is just the first step. While children learn a great deal exploring their natural surroundings, deeper learning involves interpreting what they see, touch, and smell, as well as synthesizing this information to construct meaning. Supportive adults can help children develop well-functioning observation skills, visual memory, and the ability to learn math, science, and literacy concepts from their interactions with nature.

Music & Movement Area

“Music and movement experiences are vital to children’s healthy development. Well-equipped outdoor Music and Movement Areas provide an ideal place for children to learn about sound, pitch, rhythm and tonality on their own; manipulate a variety of nature-based musical instruments; and express musical concepts by moving their bodies to music.” ~Learning With Nature Idea Book

Building Area

“Providing clocks outdoors gives children a chance to experiment in a setting where space limitations and noise from falling blocks are not a concern. As children build with both geometric and organic shapes, they are strengthening mathematical, visual-spatial and abstract thinking.” ~Learning With Nature Idea Book

Climbing Area

Balance, Climbing, and crawling elements inspire imaginations on the playground and better concentration in class. Activities involving climbing and crawling help alleviate stress, allowing even children with behavioral challenges to relax and maintain better concentration when they return to class indoors.

Nature Art Area

“As children work with natural materials such as pine cones or seed pods and arrange them into patterns or mosaic-like pictures, they develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, while strengthening skills in classification and close observation.” ~Learning With Nature Idea Book

Garden Area & Greenhouse

“Involving children in gardening at an early age gives them the opportunity to develop a sense of wonder about the world and be amazed every day with each new discovery.” ~Dana L. Miller, Ph.D.

Gathering Area

A gathering area provides a place where groups can meet for a variety of reasons including sharing discoveries or holding special events.

Messy Materials Area

A well- designed “messy materials” area can encourage children to use their imaginations, experiment with a variety of natural objects, practice carrying heavy objects, and feel a sense of accomplishment and personal mastery over the environment. ~ Learning With Nature Idea Book

Since my child has joined Bundles of Joy, her overall knowledge, personality, and how she interacts with other children has vastly improved! I would recommend Bundles every time!
